Notwithstanding the implementation of IMAS-compliant role-specific training, daily toolbox talks and procedural demonstrations combined with regular conduct of refresher training prior to mobilisation, return from leave, or instructed by the management team, ensure a ‘belt and braces’ approach towards operational safety. Training in line with IMAS Standard 06.10 plays a crucial role in building and developing the skills of staff which are essential for successful demining operations.
Demining training is mainly carried out in two methods. Formal training which includes specific schedule, timeline, specific training facility and practical area, and informal or on-the-job training (OJT) which is delivered to staff based on the findings and recommendations of BADIA DEMINING internal monitoring and supervision and UNMAS or NMAC external monitoring reports and recommendations. All the training programs require to be managed and provided based on a ‘Needs Assessment’, this can pertain to the needs of a specific contract scope of work or the needs of an individual or group when it is identified that they need specific training to enhance their knowledge, skills, performance and attitude.
